Pirate Symbols: The Sparrow
The Sparrow
The Sparrow is a prestigious piratical tattoo, it is worn by a sailor who has sailed all seven seas. Like their piratical counterparts, Sparrows range far and wide and are found on 6 of the 7 continents.
The tattoo above is an homage to Captain Jack Sparrow of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean, who also takes his name from the far flung foul.

Actually, you have half of that wrong. Sparrow tattoos are traditionally for sailors that has been recently become popular. The sparrow was tattooed onto a sailor (commonly on the chest) for traveling the 5,000 nautical miles.
Sorry mate, but your facts are all over the place. Whoever it was that made the 5,000 nautical miles comment was absolutely correct. He/she was also correct about it being a sailor's tattoo and not a pirate's tattoo.
I'm not sure who gave you the impressive position of "Piratologist General", but I think that your suitability for the position is quite questionable.
I'm totally willing to believe it's 5,000 miles, I had read it somewhere that it refered to all seven seas. As to the idea that for some reason pirates AREN'T sailors, I'll need convincing.
